Artikel over Rashid en waar hij nu is aangeland met zijn idejen over horsemanship. Ik zit echt heel erg op diezelfde lijn! Leuk om te merken.

dank je wel voor deze link. Ik vind het altijd leuk om over Rashid te lezen. Ik begin nu aan zijn derde boek. Hij is voor mij wel een voorbeeld.

Ben net met het eerste boek bezig, maar ik ben nu al fan van deze man ! Geweldig. Ik wou dat ik het ook zo kon !

In de Your Horse (= Engels blad) van deze maand staat een heel stuk over 'stalondeugden'. Daarbij staat een stukje over Mark's ideeen hierover en een verwijzing naar zijn boeken. Heel leuk om te zien dat ze zo hun lezer's proberen te prikkelen om na te denken waarom paarden stalondeugden ontwikkelen.

Ok, hier komt een stukje:

"Mark Rashid has made a study of the nature of the horse's mind. He believes that vices are related to four sources - eating, movement, agression and skin irritation. Stereotypical behaviours related to eating include chewing, self-mutilation, cribbing and wind-sucking. Those related to movement (or locomotion) include weaving, box walking and door kicking.
Agression can lead to vices such as biting and kicking, whilst skin irritations can cause box-kicking, head tossing and circling.
Unlike humans, who are very comfortable living indoors, horses simply are not, says Mark. Their survival has always hinged on their ability to see and react to predators and so, given the opportunity, horses will choose wide open spaces to live in. Horses also want to roam long distances throughout the day and move with the herd. By understanding these two instincts we can see why horses may develop some unwanted behaviour when kept in a stable for long periods of time."
